Hope Spilling From The Horizon

Bare 
I stood 
Held  captive 
Going    nowhere 
Fast in the scorched sand 
Of   this   desolate   land. 
Nowhere,   until   I   opened 
My eyes, did I see the first rays 
Of  hope  spilling  from  the  horizon 
Reaching for me. Warming my weak, fruitless 
Arms. Shedding light over what was once dark. 
Revealing beauty  once  hidden  from  me, 
Should I choose to have faith, believe. 
I’m faced  with a  decision. 
Reach to the light freeing 
My  soul?  Retreat  to 
Darkness once more? 
My outstretched 
Arms choose 
Faith.

This week’s challenge at Word Craft’s Tanka Tuesday is to write an ekphrastic poem inspired by the featured image. Anita Dawes from last month’s challenge has provided this beautiful image for this month’s challenge. The Image is by mollyroselee from Pixabay.

I first wrote a Tanka poem for this image. However, I felt like there was too much left unsaid. Therefore, I decided to give the Etheree a try. I hope you enjoyed it.

Stacked/Double Etheree – consists of twenty lines with a syllable count of 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10, 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 syllables per line, which looks like two triangles joined together in the center.
